MacCabe Durney Barnes was established as a planning practice in March 2009 resulting from the merger of MacCabe Durney with Barnes Consulting. It is a practice that specialises in urban design, planning and economic development. It brings Fergal MacCabe and Terry Durney, who are both Architect/Planners, together with Jerry Barnes, a Chartered Surveyor and Town Planner. Fergal and Terry are two of the most experienced Planner/Architects in Dublin, with Fergal first establishing his own practice in 1974 and Terry is the former Director of Planning and Technical Services of the Dublin Docklands Development Authority. Jerry was formerly a Senior Planning Inspector with An Bord Pleanála before joining the Dublin Docklands Development Authority and then establishing his own practice.
The mission of the practice is to promote urban design and planning as a process for achieving an enhanced physical environment and consequent improvement of the quality of people’s lives. The practice provides a personal and focused service to a number of high quality clients. It serves both the public and private sectors and has a considered knowledge of the factors which are critical to achieving development goals serving the common good.
The strength of the practice lies in its creativity, problem solving and the experience of its partners. In combining planning, surveying and architectural skills, it has the ability to deliver sustainable and viable development solutions. Its insight into the workings and motivations of each sector is critical to its success.
The practice consists of the three above professionals, a specialist graphic designer, Niall Mathews, BSc, MA and an officer manager, Rachel Brennan, Dip LS. Where large projects are involved, it partners other expert groups and has worked successfully on this basis with a number of particular practices and individuals. |
